The Dangers of Flushable Wipes

Flushable wipes are becoming an increasingly popular thing among Americans to use for their potty-training children, but also for themselves. However, studies have shown that no wipes are flushable, so they should not be used at all. Here are some reasons why you will have to call a plumbing contractor after using flushable wipes.

The term “flushable” is used incorrectly on packaging - Just because a wipe can be flushed, does not make it flushable. However, the truth is sometimes you can get away with flushing wipes for months without any repercussions that directly affect you or your wallet. But that does not mean you should use flushable wipes because there is always a risk of causing issues with your plumbing system which would require help from a local plumbing contractor.

Clogging and blockages - Our plumbing contractors have encountered our fair share of calls about blockages in plumbing systems due to flushable wipes. It often costs a few hundred dollars to fix the plumbing for the clients who contact our team, which are issues that could have easily been avoided if no flushable wipes were used. Flushable wipes do not shrink when they get wet like toilet paper, which is how blockages happen in the sewer system.

Environmental waste issues - Flushable wipes are not able to be broken down like toilet paper in wastewater treatment plants. So, instead of getting disposed of properly, flushable wipes often end up in rivers, streams, lakes, and other bodies of water and add to the already elevated levels of pollution in the environment. Next time you think about buying flushable wipes for convenience think about the negative impact they have on the environment.

Costly plumbing repairs - The cost to unclog and repair pipes that were damaged from using flushable wipes adds up quickly. Avoid all the costs that come with hiring a plumbing contractor by using just toilet paper in your bathroom at home. No amount of convenience is worth the cost of hiring our plumbing contractors to fix your plumbing system.
